I will not know until the car reaches the Island and customs and duty is paid. I will keep you posted if you are still interested.

joeyskates,

Cayman Island is laocated South of Cuba with a population of approximately 40 thousand. Grand Cayman Island is a British West Indies Island.

I noticed a lot of people looking at the 155, is there anyone interested in it?.

Regards,

Tony F

I would love it if I could actually import it to Cali. Unfortunately, we don't believe in having fun interesting cars made within the last 25 years so I shall have to wait.

I am curious what sort of price one could get for that. How many smog shops know the difference between a 155 and a 164, y'think?

The car has to be 25 years or older to be inported to California? Can't you just pay the duties?

I am not sure how much I will be asking for the car, but I know it will be very reasonable. I will know more on the price when it arrives, and the dust has settled.

I guess the only way the smog shops would know is by the registration and vin#. Other than that they would not know.

Regards,

Tony F

California (and a few other states, not sure how many) will not let you register a car that has never been "officially" imported to the country. There's some rumor that there's a new law that allows for "special imports" of rare or enthusiast cars, but it's always kind of questionable.

I believe it's US-wide. Once a car is 25 years or older, it is exempt from the regular safety/emissions/whatever concerns regarding imports, so you can freely import and register it. Under 25 years, you can only get it on the road by illegal means (aka having a friend at the DMV ), or by importing a bunch of them, crash testing them, putting on reflectors and correct height and capability bumpers, etc etc - not really practical unless you know you can re-coup that expense by selling a lot of them (such as Nissan Skylines).

There is a new "show and display" regulation that allows cars of historic value (McLaren F1, Jag XJ220, Porsche 959, etc) to be imported, registered, and driven up to (I believe - don't quote me) 2500 miles per year, very closely watched. I've heard a rumour that Bill Gates was the main reason this was passed, so that he could have his 959

Same thing applies here in Canada, but fortunately for us, the exemption period is only 15 years rather than 25.

Thanks Heep for the informative information. I guess my chances for selling this car to the US is next to none?

It would likely be difficult to sell to the U.S., unfortunately, but I have seen a 156 in Monterey, CA, so there certainly would be interest, and people with the means to get it in...

Tony - Yes. It would be completely impractical to try and sell it in the states.
