Yeah, I think it's the end of the summer convertible sale problem. Check out how many are for sale in the Bay Area on CL.

Very nice Spider. Price is very good if the mechanicals and interior are in as good as the paint and body looks to be. Is the S3 spoiler removable, or would it damage the paint to do so?

John,
That's a Niki Lauda spoiler, from the special edition Niki Lauda Spider which came out in '78 I think. The difference between this piece and the the S3 spoiler is that it's fiberglass, and not integrated with the tail lights, etc. A lot of vendors sold them as an aftermarket piece. They should be removable, depending on how they were attached.

I would remove the spoiler, I think it would make it a lot easier to sell

I like the spoiler, like the wheels and like the color. Isn't a 71 the fastest year?

I'd like to think so, but unless you have Paradiso's '71 with the twin spark, probably not. '74 has the most aggressive fuel delivery curve among the Spica cars.
'71 is an interesting "tweener" model, last year of the 1750, first year of the Kamm tail, with some body and interior features different from other years, or shared with the '72 only (no bumperettes on front bumper, wedge-shaped bumper-mounted license plate lights in rear, three-switch console with no dimmer, etc.). Annoyingly, when looking up parts in catalogs, it often falls through the cracks, as many parts are listed as fitting '66-'69 or '72-whatever. The owner of the '71 has to learn which parts are likely to fit and which won't.
The Spider FAQ website says the '71 has the pinched nose of the earlier Duettos, but mine doesn't. Do any?
FWIW, count me among those that don't like the spoiler on an S2. Otherwise, this is a beautiful car.

As long as we're all critiquing this car, count me as an anti-spoilerite. I also don't care for the moulding along the sides either (my car as both, but the moulding will be gone shortly). I have to say that I would have seriously considered grabbing this car were it not for those issues. It's my personal favorite year and looks to be in great shape, and the price is right. But if you have to remove the spoiler and moulding, you're likely going to have to re-paint as well which is what holds me back. Just some food for thought.
