eBay selller alert!
There is a dealer selling "the nicest 164L around" on eBay at the moment. eBay Motors: Alfa Romeo (item 190206675545 end time Mar-24-08 13:57:14 PDT) I asked him some normal questions made an offer and after a few emails he got nasty with me cursing and all. He says he spent over $5k making the car "perfect" and "the nicest 164L on the planet" but as far I can tell from the pics it is far than "perfect". So if you are bidding on or thinking about buying this car please think twice. Oh and the asking price is $8,989 on cars. com Heres that link, cars.com: 1991 Alfa Romeo 164 L

Lenard, This ad has been around a few times already. He gets it to a point, pulls the
ad, waits a week, then posts again ! I'm sure this will continue! As for $5K to
make it 'perfect'..."hardly" I would think!!!!............Ed K.

Tarted-up one sickly wh*re more like it!
That engine bay is fright pig category if I've ever seen one! Clearly, whoever owned this car cared for the cosmetics, but cared less about the mechanicals. What is he thinking?

The seller told me after I offered him $2500 that I was a bottom feeder and that the car will go to the highest bidder not the lowest!

I don't know the seller, nor do I know the posters here, but I do know that.......
The ebay auction linked does not have a "make offer" option, so why you would be making offers outside of ebay in violoation of your contract with them I have not idea.
Also, that a seller has the right to ask whatever he wants for something, if it does not sell that is his problem, not yours.
Lastly that, as a buyer you are not forced to buy his car, and completly free to buy a different one for the price you want to pay.
As someone who sells on ebay quite often, and so deals with time wasters like you guys, I can definately sympathize with the seller.
Really, if what you want, is readily available for $2500, just buy it from somebody else !

There is no L on the planet worth $8900 and I have yet to see one get $5000 in many a year. I think he'll be keeping that one for quite some time.

Every seller has a price and sometimes it's lower than posted so making an offer is not time wasting it's prudent buying. The seller may accept, counter offer or reject, simple as that. A time waster is someone who does not pay upon acceptance.

One that has $10K in cash in the truck would be worth it IMO

Since I got mine for 1500.00 with 67000 miles on it. My was just a Base Model, I think this guy is crazzzzy! What does he think he's selling here? Maybe 2500 to 3000, but after looking at these pics I'd offer him the lower.

If he could prove maintenence on T-belt, water pump, and if clutch and steppers and AC are good I think $3500 is reasonable but no more.

You must not of read the whole listing it says "LIKE IT? BUY IT NOW! EMAIL ME FOR IMMEDIATE DELIVERY!" When I emailed him he told me to make an offer. It is best not to comment unless you know the whole story or read the complete listing but thanks for your unbiased comment.

Waste of time
Talk about a waste of time...reading Curtis' half-baked, uninformed defense of someone clearly attempting to sell through naked hyperbole is truly a waste of all readers' time.

I placed a bid on this car about a month ago at $2,000 what I think its worth. I am so sick of seeing it pop up on ebay and wonder why the guy keeps wasting his time. He is going to have to sell for $9,000 just to cover his ebay expenses. I wonder if he has ever seen another 164 in his life.
