'71 1750 Spider, exceptional condition

I’ve owned and enjoyed this car for almost 9 years, prior owner was a gentleman who owned it for 20 years. It has 49,000 miles, believed original. Had 44K when I bought it.

This car has the desirable 1750 engine with Weber carbs, and to quote the previous owner: “the head work done by Sperry valve works, It was a complete rebuild with new valves, guides, reground surfaces, and street sport cams for Weber carbs.” It has an aftermarket Supertrapp exhaust and is probably the best sounding 4-cylinder Alfa you’ll ever hear. It is quite louder than stock.

The car was painted in the mid 80’s to the original Farina Red, and the paint is overall still great, with some chips on panel edges that have been touched up. Bumper chrome is excellent. The driver’s taillight has cracking in the chrome, and the door handles are original so they are dull. Panel fit is excellent, better than the ’89 Spider I had new. The top is in good condition with some small cracking in the vinyl in the B pillars that doesn’t affect the canvas underneath. Back window is clear. The original boot cover is included but has some broken clips. I never use it.

I replaced the front suspension and brakes and it tracks and stops straight. I changed the oil and coolant last fall and will be doing the transmission and diff fluid in the next couple weeks. I have replaced the door and vent window seals, and the fuel hoses that were very old.

The interior is original and still very serviceable. Some cracks in the driver seat, passenger headrest, some wear and tear on the original rubber mats. The dash is cracked (I put in a Dash Cap which looks good) but I have a very nice spare original dash with only a single small crack behind the vents (does not go to the windshield, not visible from the cockpit) to include as a spare. 2 of the 3 center gauges have bubbling chrome, but there are 3 good gauges in the extra dash I have. It has a modern radio with USB input, and have some 6x9 speakers in enclosures behind the seats so as not to cut holes into any of the interior. I hesitate to replace it because it is all original and I enjoy it as it is. I did install a wood Nardi steering wheel and gear shift knob. The originals are black and I still have them.

There is a small amount of rust around the floorpan drain holes, and pinholes in the spare tire well. There is a linear tear in a boxed floor area ahead of the rear jacking point which has some rust on its edges (see photo) Not sure how this happened but it was there when I got the car. Behind the left rear wheel are some bubbles in the paint. The panel is solid. No bondo on the car. All rust is stable in the 9 years I had the car. I never drove it in the rain.

I have the original SPICA parts as well as the original generator. This car would be an excellent restoration candidate.

The period BWA SportStar wheels are in great shape and the Pirelli P6 tires, although old, hold air fine and perform well within my limits.

The windshield has a small area of delamination in the bottom passenger corner.

Please see the photos for details. If you have any questions I will answer them honestly- post here or message me. Car is located in SW Ohio. I don’t know exactly where to price this. It’s a highly desirable Spider. I’m asking US$15,000 and am open to constructive discussion on that.

The OP of this post is looking for a Spider in your price range.

Is it possible to buy a 105/115 on this budget?

I would reach out to him. You car looks to be what he's looking for.

Except that he has amended his original post to clarify he's looking for a Coupe.

While I prefer the coupes over the spiders, this 71 would be right in the middle of the sweet spot for price, low weight, and reliability.

Past Alfas...
59 102 Touring (first Alfa $500 running)
65 Sprint GT (2nd Alfa, $500 daily driver)
102 Sprint (never did anything with it, but wish I had)
74 Berlina (first new car - now certainly rusted into oblivion)
61 Giulietta Spider G-Prod Race Car (where is it now?)
84 Spider Veloce (rarely drove it, so sold it)
86 Quadrifoglio (Dull car - no more 115s for me)
1971 Montreal "The Full Monty". Fair winds and following seas

Current Alfas
59 102 Touring Roadster - restoration complete, enough Alfa for any rational man. Or irrational, for that matter
And past...
Two 1946 Stampe SV4C (c/n 294 "Rocinante" - wife's favorite airplane. RIP), and c/n 235 "La Bon Temps Femme" (gone to a new home, but never forgotten)
Zlin 50LA (+9 -6 gees, titanium spar, 1200 lbs, 260HP rumored to now be in Brazil)
1946 Luscombe 8A
Starduster Too (recently spotted at the Nevada City, CA airport - over 20 years and an entire continent separating it from our stewardship in Binghamton, NY)
1955 Cessna 170B (wife taught me to fly tailwheel in this)

And present...
64 Mooney M20E ("Rambo". My faithful steed for over 30 years) Nearly 50 years old, and just returned from a trip to Argentina in him
Newest in the fleet
1967 Piper Super Cub on Wipline amphibious floats (a true "all terrain vehicle")
2010 Triumph Thunderbird

You can snap roll an Alfa only one time...

Someone requested a sound clip of the exhaust. I don't know how well my phone will record but I will try to do that.

$15k, for a nice 1750. Or you can buy a rust bucket for $2K and pour in $13 k still not get close to this: a 1750 with an original structurally sound chassis!
