i need to make some space and am going to sell my 67 duetto with a motor from a 68. has an older restoration so it is all there but not shinny. has some surface rust and a bondo chip on drivers side door gap, so been hit there and rear ended at some point. clutch is starting to slip.
so how much is this car worth? anyone have a guess? thanks for your opinions
I have a 69 I'm going to sell at some point and have been watching. I also looked for a Duetto for a friend in LA a couple years ago. For non-dealer sellers, real-world prices on the West Coast seem to be mid 20s for good cars to high 20s/low 30s for great cars. Maybe dealers are getting more. Lots of typical decent drivers in the teens.
As they say, location, location, location. Having visited your Island many times I congradulate your ability to keep the Alfa in as good of shape as it is in. Most vehicles of this vintage are long gone. Unlike salted roadways, sea air attacks almost 24/7 whether you drive it or not. That said most prospective buyers will be on the mainland and will factor in the shipping cost. This model is demand now, so I would hold out for the buyer who wants to do a complete restoration. Prices as stated by more those more knowledgeable seem reasonable. Enjoy the Duetto, drive it until you now longer can. What a wonderful place to own an Alfa. I have a owner in Maui that I sell parts to who belongs to a group of auto crossers. He might be interested. I can only dream of driving an Alfa to the top of Haleaukula and coming down. Or the Road to Hana at daybreak before the rental cars take over. Last time we rented some Chinese scooters and drove to Hana and back via the back side. We returned the scooters with parts in our hands. The owner was thrilled someone actually did a road trip, he was ready to recycle them anyway.
Cheers, Jon
I do not suggest you reduce price to cover shipping. You may have to barter to get a mutual agreeable price. A buyer will be considering shipping to estimate the overall cost. Yes I would consider it a daily driver somewhere in the 3 to 3- area, maybe high 4. Going price for a running, complete Duetto I would think would be $8500 - $13,000 given that it is a sellers market at this time. Price accordingly, you can always go down, never up. Experiment in different venues such as this BB, eBay, or craigslist (if you like low ball offers). consider reserve pricing on eBay. If you are not an a rush you should get something near what you want.No one likes to pay asking price so leave some wiggle room so everyone comes out a winner.
Cheers, Jon
in all seriousness i thank you guys for the input and suggestions. i will take 100 pictures for sure and lay out all the needs of the car however small they may seem. hopefully i can find someone who can enjoy the car as much as i have.
They all have rust, however the obvious rust in the boot/trunk lid may scare people off.
You should carefully photograph the sills/rockers from underneath (all angles) include the floors and rear subfloor (parcel shelf). Take good, clear, well exposed photos of all the spots that usually rust (floors, sills, wheel arches) to show the condition. A little bit of honesty here may help reduce anxiety any buyer would have and help with the sale.
All Alfa's rust and most all will have some rust hidden away unless they've been recently and carefully restored. Knowing where it is, how bad it is and what will need to be repaired will guide the sale price.
Must be a bummer to sell it, I'd love to see Hawaii one day especially in a Duetto.
(Care to rent it out for a fortnight to a middle aged backpacker and when's the best time of year to come to Hawaii anyway?)
hopefully i won't have a car to loan out. and summer here is may, june, july but that is when kids are out of school so there are lots of families visiting and it's more expensive. really any visit is just sort of luck as to what weather you get. raining this week :frown2:
Your car is a 1967 spider but has the trunk lid of a 1969 spider. You probably should call that out when you advertise the car because the first picture I looked at was confusing.

It has red/amber lenses? Don't you have red/red in the States?
