That's Dirk Stoehr's (italspeed).
EDIT: I picked it up for him from Alfa Only in Glendale back around 1999/2000. Since he's had it, the van has been stored inside. It was originally based out of Alfa Romeo's El Segundo headquarters back in the late 60's / early 70's. These vans were mainly seen at race tracks offering what I guess you would call "factory support". I should buy it, drop in a 24V V6, and tow the GTA to races with it.

anyone know about the underpinnings and powerplant? italcarguy - do you know level of completeness or have you seen the rig personally? What an awesome track day pit vehicle or weekend getaway rig.

The car has a Giulietta 1300 with a single carburator. To my recollection, the van is fairly complete. Only non original items I remember are aftermarket 15" wheels and a custom made front bumper. Below are some pictures Simon took of it last time we were at Italspeed.

Matt, my friend, that is one of the most desirable post-war Alfas built !!
it is a Giulia Tubolare Zagato ( Giulia drivetrain, tube frame, aluminum body by Zagato ). retro-actively called the TZ1, since there was a later, even more exotic, TZ2.
129hp, 1450lbs, limited production, street legal racer. think of it as Alfa's Exige, but built back in the early sixties.
as a primer of all things Alfa, i recommend the "Illustrated Alfa Romeo Buyer's Guide" by Joe Benson.
Welcome, new Alfista

i must agree:
that service van would make a most-cool tow vehicle for a race alfa !! i absolutely love the looks of a hot-rodded VW bus. this thing could be mind-bending hot
from the pictures, it looks like some glass is missing. bet it would be difficult to source that . . .

To restore the Romeo 2 van properly, it could easily take $50,000.

Hmmm, I told my mother about the car, but she thinks that one is enough... But I bet this yellow one is gazillion times easier to drive than my mom's transporter!! It's bit too wide at the back and very tall, so getting around in this car in a country that is only as big as the state of Calif. is not easy, if not impossible. It's parked outside of her shop right now and gets driven only for some special occasions. BTW, the Matta parked right next to the romeo 2 is also my mother's... She is just plain crazy (but I am so grateful that she is my mother)!!

I was very close to buy this van from Dirk twice in the last 3 or 4 years.
I "chickened" out twice. I have another Romeo 2 van that is also in restoration state but is complete.
I have a lot of detail pictures of this yellow van and could email them if somebody is seriously interested. When I went there last time to check it out, unfortunately, the van's roof has been pretty badly damaged when they lifted it up on the place seen in Anthony's picture and the beam hit the roof.
The van obviously needs a full restoration, has the windshield missing and the roof and rear panel plus door need major bodywork. It's missing the original instrument but has still some of its original cabinets in the rear. There is a picture of a similar original service van in the "illustrated Alfa buyer's guide" book. Body is original Colli.
It's missing the engine but I think the special ZF gearbox is in there.
Despite all the work it requires, I love it and still would love to buy it.
Patrick
