There's a difference between buying insurance from an agent and filing a claim. Sure, the agent will sell you a policy, but the claims department will have your premium returned and deny your claim because you don't own the vehicle. Read your policy.

This won't work, you would have to produce the title or other proof of ownership and in some cases (NY to be sure) photos would have to be taken by insurance rep prior to coverage being effective.

Sorry Guys. But I dont want to argue with you here.. Great case in point "Legal Files by Howard Dranus" Sports car market guide summer of 07, A guy buys a ferrari f430 on Ebay Wires the 230,000 dollars to New York to the seller and turns out the seller is fraudulent and the car is non existant... Low and behold he put the car with the vin on his insurance and paid his 1000 dollar deductable and the Insurance company paid him the purchase price of the car. The insurance company then went after the seller..

Another case in point. My Red Alfa romeo with a State farm policy rolled out of my driveway and crashed into two cars....(Pics if you want to see) GUess what State farm paid for all of the damage and THe car was never in my Name.. Really I have owned over 283 cars in 20 years. Stop arguing with me on this one.... Jeff

Just ask yourself a question. When is the last time your agent asked for the Registration to your car? When is the last time a Claims adjuster asked to see the Registration to your car?

Under California Law, you must have an "insurable interest" in the property for insurance to be effective. (Insurance Code section 280.) In your case, you had possession of the car and could prove it was yours. That's different from sending money to someone on the false promise that they would send a car to you. You would have neither possession nor title nor an "insurable interest." I've worked with insurance companies on claims for over 20 years. I wouldn't count on that claim being paid by any of them.

My daily-driver insurance agent (Allstate; Calif.) demands reg documents on all my cars and raises a stink if I don't send them right away.

Those pictures bring a tear to my eye, except for maybe the Toyota, that brought a big grin.

I too have to provide registration information to my agent and list any leinholder (I believe it's so they have record on who to pay in case of a loss).

Great looking GTV6. I'm glad that where you live you can get coverage and recourse if a car is non existent or is never delivered. That would not happen where I live

Perhaps it's off topic about fraud & scams...
Hope you've made a "declaration" on damaged sustained on your GTV when you sold the vehicle on Ebay.
Whether it was trying to escape or to rid a sticker stuck on it's as$

they guy likes the overseas clients most - gains their trust than keeps lying that hes got the car , when its a hell of a lie...

Just a little addition to this; Be wary of another ebay scammer UserID tobbonpace. He scammed me for a pair of heater control knobs. He sent the $$ - No Problem. I sent the items - Claims he didn't receive them. Forced me to make a refund via PayPal. EVERYBODY that I send out to, receives items except this ONE guy? After 10+ years on ebay?? If you do ever sell to this guy, MAKE DAMN SURE YOU SHIP IT REGISTERED MAIL, NO MATTER HOW SMALL THE PACKAGE, AND PASS THAT COST ON TO HIM FOR DOING SO.

BEWARE of this scammer.
