I regretfully have to sell my Spider. The itch for a GTV6 is too great to scratch. It currently as about 112,000 miles or so. Its been a few months since I poked inside of it. I will update this over the weekend.
It has been in my family for over 22 years. We are an Alfa Family, with plenty of mechanical skills so it was maintained "in house" with lots of love and care. I bought it from my Uncle who was the 2nd owner back in 2006. Since taking ownership, many things have been freshened up. Most recently (fall 2008) new front cross drilled rotors, and calipers/ ferodo pads along with stainless steel brake lines. Under the hood, all new rubber was installed, including the intake runner boots and vacuum lines.
The A/C was not functioning and was completely removed (including bits under the dash). The only hints that the car was an A/C car are the two vents on the dash. The coolant hoses are two years old or so, no coolant issues.
The engine does drip a little oil, from the lower oil pan gasket. It has a skid plate, and the oil pan is in great shape. The motor is original 100% stock, and runs very well. There is a little bit of oil consumption on decel from higher rpms, most likely the valve guides or seals. It has never had a head job. It is due for that, but I do not have any time for this. I also installed new rubber fuel line (hi pressure fuel injection hose) from the fuel pump area, and up front under the hood.
The exhaust from the engine back was installed in the winter of 2007/08. It consists of an IAP coated header (the shiny stuff) and a mid 70's spica spider center section (to get the slip fit instead of flanges), a new o2 sensor, and a centerline muffler delete tail pipe. It has a great sound!!! The car snarls and pops like a proper sports car.
The transmission shifts well, but don't hurry second gear. Double clutching makes it a smooth ordeal when downshifting. This could use attention as well.
There is a leak in the transmission case, a slow leak however.
Back when I first got it, the Spider got new Bilstein shocks all the way around, as well as new sway bar bushings. The suspension bushings are all original. The springs are not sagging or broken but seem tired. Buy some new springs, and a few bushings and your good to go.
Back in 2001 or so, my Uncle had the car stripped and painted its original Avorio (ivory) color. The seats were re-upholstered (only on the face) and the wheels were re finished. They supposedly cut out the small rust sections in the rear and rocker panels. Nine years later, there are some bubbles coming through. The car has had some miles on it since then, and has some chips here and here, a dent or two. The carpet is in good shape, no unusual stains. The top was replaced around the time of the paint job with a very nice one. The paint is in excellent condition. The wheels coating has chipped here and there as well. The car is not perfect. However, its one you can drive and be especially proud of.
The Spider developed some type of electrical / starting problem that has not been sorted out. It might be the starter on its way out. It works sometimes, then it wont. The battery is dead now and wont take a charge, I will be buying one for it this weekend to get it running. The car had not been driven much the last year or so.
I know I just listed out a bunch of issues, but with a little bit of work it would be just fine. It is a 26 year old car that needs some attention. Its price reflects this. $4500 obo.
Please come by and see the car in person, call my cell and leave a message if you would like to see it. 301-332-1417 or email me @

The car is not located where I live however, so weekends only please. These pictures are a few years old.. sorry! I will get new ones up hopefully this weekend. Nothing has changed visually.
