1974 GTV good driver only $5000!
Hi, I have a GTV, sold it once on eBay for $5100 but the winner was a deadbeat so I thought I would post it up here. The next time I put it up it did meet reserve but then the lead bidder pulled out. (I think it was just to see what my reserve was), but that deterred everyone else from bidding so it did not meet. I will take $5000 for the car. Any questions feel free to call me at 970-689-6490.
1974 Alfa Romeo GTV.
This car has been driven daily for the past five months (except in inclement weather of course). The engine was removed and new rings and bearings installed, resulting in a very fine running car! The clutch engages readily and is in good condition. It was examined and deemed to be in good shape, and seems to have even more life left in it than the replacement unit. (Modern clutch replacement parts have less wear in them than many older clutches have after miles of wear). There is the customary Alfa grind in second, so the driver must take it easy. Pat Braden in the Alfa Owners Bible points out that this is not a concern, as Alfas develop it after a very short period of wear. The car has a new intermediate pipe and muffler, so the exhaust sounds great and has no holes. The drivers’ side spring pan is also new. The grille and lights are from a 1969 European Model GTV. The original SPICA injection is still on the car, and works well. The car has a upgrade in the electric cooling fan that provides superior engine cooling. This GTV has rare factory option BWA wheels that look great and really add to the impression of the car over the stock wheels.
Everything in the interior of this car works, including the whole electrical system, lights, fan, heater, etc. The gas gauge reads too low, but still functions. Once you are used to it, it is easy to gauge how much you have left. The fuel warning light in the gauge also works, as well as all the other idiot lights in the quadrifoglio. The troublesome heater valve has been replaced with a ball valve located under the dashboard. The interior is in good condition with no loose panels and with GTV-6 seats that provide superior support and driving comfort to the stock GTV seats. The rear seat will need to be recovered at least on the top, due to sun damage. The headliner is discolored in places, but does not have tears that are detrimental to its function. The steering wheel is in good condition with a hairline crack near one of the spokes. All the wood trim is present. The speedometer does not function due to a disconnected cable that was apparently damaged when the engine was coming out. A new cable is reasonably cheap and should fix the problem, because the speedometer was functioning before that. The car has a 200 watt Dual iPlug digital CD player (and AM/FM tuner) which produces great sound through Jensen 6x9 speakers in the rear and smaller speakers in the front. The rear defogger even works when you press the button.
The main problem with the car is rust. It is in the typical Alfa locations: namely the rockers, sills, and front floorboards. These will all need to be replaced to take the car to the next step. I do not have the capital to do that due to my recent acquisition of a 1992 164S. The rear floorboard appears to be intact without significant rust problems. There is also some rust over the wheel arches and some bubbling around the windows but no holes, and they didn’t seem to leak when I was caught in the rain.
All in all this is a good car to drive every day, but it will not win any shows. If you’re looking for a GTV for less than half what almost every other one is going for, this is a great candidate. It needs a few thousand dollars bodywork to take it to the next level, and could definitely be recouped in added value. These cars seem to have nowhere to go but up, even in today’s economy, and almost every one is going well over $10k. It can be driven as is, and made better as you please. It has always started and run well since the rebuild, and I have never had any kind of failure with the electronics, suspension, or driveline.
Pictures can still be seen on the ebay listing at:

Tell me, is this a reasonable price for the car? I don't want to ask too much or too little for it!

I'm thinking just a tad bit high. I was interested, but the rusted out sills and other rust seem daunting to someone with out welding access/skill.
If you were willing to take $5100 via e-bay that nets like $4500 after fees(?), might get it sold to a good home in the mid 4's.
Good luck, seems like a nice daily driver that will be an ongoing investment for the next owner.

I think $4500 is a market correct price though you might see as high as 5000 for the right person.

well it sounds like you got a very good deal. I haven't really seen one go for $1200 in a very long time. I suppose I am open to offers.
Thanks everyone!

Sold it to the right guy here locally. I can't wait to see what happens when the means are added to the will to complete this project! Meanwhile I will enjoy my 164S. (whose previous owner so destroyed the sound system setup that it took $325 just to get it running). As always, the Car Toys staff complained that "that car is really hard to work on," to which I responded "it's a love hate relationship with Alfas."

You might want to mention that it also has Euro rear lenses and the US DOT side markers have been removed and filled in at some point (a very desirable thing IMO).
Good luck with the sale.

Thanks for the word about the euro tail-lamps. Apparently the car also had Air Conditioning at one point even though the components under the hood have been removed. Took the little GTV for an 85 mile drive through the mountains yesterday afternoon, reminded me both how much fun these cars are to drive and also how excited I would be to see someone with the resources (namely not a student like me) take it to the next level!

The scammers in Staten are back!
Hi the car is still for sale. I thought I would comment on something else though. The Brunos are back on eBay. These GTV flippers/scammers in Staten Island NY were kicked off ebay through the combined effort of myself and several other disgusted buyers of their dolled up and improperly represented cars. I even have a $1500 judgement against them on Paypal that they have been ordered to pay but have not. I called and asked what about rust? on my car, and was told the rockers, not sills needed to be replaced. I was also told directly to my question "is there rust around the window-wells" that there was none. Additionally, I was reassured by Maurizio Bruno that the car ran very well and did not smoke. Nothing could be further from the truth. You can tell from the pictures that the rust problem is significantly worse than he said. (I live in CO so there has been no progress since then). Additionally, the engine needed a complete rebuild and smoked like a chimney. I barely made it home from the shippers. Sooo, beware any Alfa GTV from Staten Island. Their new user name is alfa*sport.

Perhaps I'll now be a bit more flexible on the price. If I don't sell it now I'll wait till the economy recovers and the values go up again...

Hey can I get some detailed pics? I would like to get a ballpark estimate from someone locally (So Cal) on the sheetmetal repairs. Thank you!
