85 Spider FOR SALE

1985 Spider with 70K, rosso with 3pc gold MSW wheels. Everything works well except the power windows, even the AC! New clutch slave cylinder, the master cylinder was replaced recently too, new Alternator, new Air Filter, brakes bled. Has the added ignition relay for easy reliable starting. I have these new parts ready to install that are not failed but should be done as good PM: rear arm bushings, engine and tranny mounts, repco pads, fuel filter , drive shaft donut. I also have a complete exhaust system - manifold to tail from an 86 spider that needs to replace the current system as the current manifold has a crack and the rear section is rusted through. Shifts nice as long as you know how to drive an alfa i.e touching forth makes for easy 1st gear selection and match rpm's well for 2nd. slight damage on passenger side. See pics here Asking $4000 Call 216-276-0586 Located in Barberton, OHIO

Yes, Car is still available

Yes, the car is available and drivable to NY. I recently did an oil change, bled the brakes, replaced the clutch slave cylinder, replaced the cap and rotor, replaced the air cleaner, and checked and cleaned all the fuse connections. The tires are all good as is the spare. The only thing that I would recommend is that the middle exhaust section be replaced prior to the drive as it is broken and fumes get into the car with the top up. As I mentioned I have a complete system from an 86 alfa and need to get around to mounting it. I purchased the 86 system it to get the exhaust manifold as mine is cracked but after a few minutes of warmup the exisiting manifold seals and so is not a pressing issue like the middle section, i.e the car i drives well and there is no danger to the exhaust valves. I would actually mount a new middle section as they are only $79 and the middle is marginal on the 86 system whereas the manifold, front cat section, and rear performance ansa section are in very good shape.

Beautiful car. Thank you for your response. I have a gentleman who is supposed to buy my Goldwing motorcycle this weekend. If he does I will def. want to talk to you about your car. What do you think of the Alfa in general? I love the way they look but have not even sat in one. Am looking at an '86 this weekend local but it hasn't been run for about 4 years. I'm a little apprehensive.

Alfa's in general?

Well there like real pretty girls. Fun but require TLC. The motors in the spiders are very reliable, same design since 1956 so they had time to get it right. The gearboxes don't appreciate ham fisted use, which will cause syncro wear leading to the common crunch issues , but if properly shifted they are realiable too. The electrics are crude but easy to figure out and work well if properly maintained. The suspension system and brakes are very advanced for the day and again work well and are reliable with proper maintenence. The bodywork is solid but very prone to rust and thus best kept dry and never driven on salt covered roads. The Bosch fuel injected cars, as mine is, start easy and run well as long as none of the hoses are leaking. Parts are easily available and fairly inexpensive. Little things seem to need attention quite often, rarely things that leave you stranded, but I still would recommend them only as toys rather than daily transport. Overall they are a bargain compared with other Italian machinery and very enjoyable to drive.
