I vote for Benny or Stuart too, they've impressed me the most with their honesty and competence. Stuart's got some cool projects around the shop too. I should mention that I haven't been to omega or alfa milano yet.

Great Mechanic

I agree w/ Alessandro if you are looking in the LA area. Contact Omega Motorsports (310)836-3160. Uwe is the best mechanic I have come across. After purchasing an Alfa 164 S in LA many years back from an individual, I had a major issue and was broken down in Beverly Hills on a Friday, right before I was to drive back with my new car to St. Louis!- Uwe (without knowing me at all) worked on fixing the car into his Saturday and got me back on the road. The car drove the whole 1800 miles without any issues.
He knows his stuff. I plan on buying another Alfa 164S and will always use Omega- makes a good excuse for the road trip to LA!

B.Rgds

Aquiles Gemba at Alfa Milano. (323) 652-2405(?).

Former factory wrench, later the Southern California tech rep.

Just IMHO.

Great stuff here about general Alfa ownership

"Buy a sweety at todays depressed prices and you will never look back."

That, and other statements, are very helpful to us neophytes/newbies. I had an Alfa 30 years ago when I was a kid and loved it, but sold it buy a Toyota to go to back to college with. Lately I've been thinking of buying another one, probably a '67-'71 GTV if I can find one that's right for my needs and wants. When I sold my '67 in the mid '70s for $1,800, it had a rebuilt engine, needed 2nd gear synchros, had a good interior and only minor rust. Now to buy one in that condition will cost several times that amount, but I've been thinking there's probably no better time to make a move. These cars are getting harder to find, are special in many ways, and will therefore probably continue to get pricier. It's also VERY true that one should buy the best one can get because most fixer-uppers will end up costing the same or more, ultimately, as a good solid one, but with more headaches in the process. Thanks for all the wise thoughts, folks.

Shipping

If you need to ship your car may I suggest Uship. It is a service of Ebay, and they bid on your shippiment giving you the lowest cost available. You can even use your PayPal account to pay for it. I paid abput $860 to ship a car from Atlanta to Long Beach, CA. They did a great job and I was very pleased with the shipping.
