WTT: 164 ---> Spider

WTT = Want To Trade (for S4 Alfa Spider or other interesting car)
BUT, now car is for sale...ASKING PRICE $8,500
About the 164:
49,700 miles, about as mint as they get.
Black/ Black, 5 speed.
VIN: ZARED33E6S6310243

NEW PICTURES. PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO FRAMES 33, 34.

17” Rota wheels (original OEM wheels will also be included for asking price)
Squadra Chip,
B&G Springs
HVAC readout fixed by Goats
Invisible bra applied by Detailing Dynamics in Mineola, NY
All books, manuals, tools, keys, even alarm key fob remote.

Have receipts for all work since I bought it two years ago
Most efficient to list defects:
1) Needs new driver’s seat heater switch;
2) PO says it has had a T Belt change (probably the recall retrofit) but he had no receipt. Technically not even due yet, but I’d do one soon;
3) There are very small dimples in the rear of the driver’s seat bottom bolster. Probably a PO had keys in his pocket. Barely noticeable;
4) Some very small scratches here and there. You would have to go over the car carefully to notice;
5) It was rear ended (lightly) about a year ago. No major damage, just bumper cover, paint, and rear chrome strip replacement;
6) The test dash lights switch needs replacing;
7) Needs a "freon" charge, but I will take care of that before sale at asking price.

I think that is all.. I have bought many used cars, and even the most “honest” sellers seem to “forget” to tell you about defects. I think I covered them all.

Having listed those, it shows as a mint car. Won second place in the Fiat Freak Out 08 Concours, Alfa division.

Runs super strong and very fast.
If no interest, then the good news is I keep this baby.
Some pics below. Interior, being all black, doesn't photograph so great. Will try to get better pics. Shows pretty much as new in real life.
Questions at sjmst@hotmail.com.

Thanks,
Sam

Greetings: Now that the duetto is humming, our S4 is a bit "redundant". Given the market, a trade is probably a good route. Only, with two A6s in the household, it is a bit "redundant" also for us to own another four door.

Your 164 looks to be a real beauty, best of luck with your quest.

Just for a laugh...

Actual conversation on the highway, driving home from work:

Me, driving: "There's a guy on the Alfa BB selling a really nice 164... 1995, low miles."

Wife, in passenger seat, slowly turns head with patented Terminator-like smoothness and looks at me.

Me: "It's even in New York! Probably somewhere near your parents."

Wife: "..."

Me: "And guess what! The guy says he's interested *trading* for a really early series 2! Ours was 12th off the line, don't get earlier than that."

Wife: "..."

Me: "What?"

Wife: "You are NOT going to sell that car."

Me: "Eh?"

Wife: performs patented "lizard blink." I swear if you look closely, you can see the extra set of eyelids behind the first closing vertically. "You will not sell that car, and you will not trade it. Understand?"

Chicks... I tell ya...

That is funny. Wives must talk to each other. I run various cars by my wife, I'd like to get. Very few pass muster.

"Hey how about a Lancia Zagato?"

"Ewwww...you are not putting that in our driveway"

"A Fiat x1/9?!"

"Nooo...it is disgusssting"

This aint easy.

I have the opposite problem - my wife says I should get the 164 - but she won't let me trade the S4. It's hers after all. If only I could get my hands on a S2...

sam -

i know you don't want to do it buy it might be easier to sell the 164 and then just purchase a spider.

Greetings: Actually, I am fond of the idea of trades. Given the dearth of $$$ in the States these days, it may be a viable way of balancing an Alfa Stable. I'd love to trade away my S4 for something else worth ten grand and needing no work. Both sides would have to be happy for an even trade, and transportation costs would need to be addressed. For rolling stock, I can envision meeting a trader half way along the road between.

I continue to consider a 164, but I would be more interested in a rear-wheel drive alfa.

Yes, that may be what ends up happening. I am open at this point to many different types of cars.

Well, Michael, have you ever driven a 164? And if you have, you still need to take this one out. If any 164 can entice you, it should be mine. Stamford, eh...not far at all...

Ok, OK, I'll let you buy it outright.
