OK, the 8c I'll take, even though the article in Automobile Magazine from last December said the gearbox in the spider version was sloppy, and the throttle cable broke while testing the car. Anyone have an extra $200,000 they want to loan me?

Thirty years from now, if I'm still around, I'll say: "I wish I had the connections to get one".

Great was hoping this thread wouldn't become convoluted but it has, we're talking about 3 different threads in this one now. haha.
The Automobile magazine was the same article (although edited much differently) as CAR magazine's. Same writer etc. Not making any excuses, since I've cited the good comments he made in the past, but the writer noted it is the prototype car, and he noted the gearbox and clutch would hopefully be better come production.
The Failure at the end of the test is not really excusable but the writer stating in another part of the review, that even though the car was a prototype it repeatedly broke the Factory Laps (they were racing it around the old Alfa plant). Meaning, they were obviously pushing this car hard, and it's a prototype, let's be fair. I remember Jeremy Clarkson's Murcielago broke down while reviewing it. and that was the production vehicle.
I'm starting to have my suspicions, that may be the only 8C spider we ever see.. since Alfa Romeo has already shown a few production 8C Coupe cars at various Car Shows, yet the spider has been in the same form as we first saw it.. but I'm staying optimistic.

Give it up. It was a pre production prototype they tested. They only drove it around the warehouse as I recall.

I don't think even a pre-production spider should have those problems when they didn't have the problem on the coupe.

Here is what the production 8C sounds like. Not sure if you agree, but I didn't necessarily want to hear American muscle car out of this car, but it is what it is. Exhaust kicks in towards the end of the video.

If it has a flat plane crank shaft, it will not sound like a muscle car.

I think i can safely say Ive never heard American muscle sound like that.. except maybe the corvette Le mans cars from a couple years back..
I know its all in good fun, but beaten by the A class... hahahah riiight. you can hear he's not even on the throttle at all through that turn, as he in the second shot.. he also clearly took it wide to allow the Merc to pass. Stubby Merc driver probably thought he just overtook him. hilarious.

At Goodwood 2007....
A very cool video, same car..
http://www.fgear.tv/videos/MotorExpo...rExpo2007.html
I just wanted to make note, since we've been keeping track of all the subtle changes thus far, what looks like turn signals have made it into the front headlight assembly, they were on the black car at the 77th Geneva show too, (same car?) but seemed more subtle, perhaps it was the lighting, but I don't think so, Alfa's way of breaking it to us lightly..
At first I thought it was horrible placement, ruining that sweeping sharp edged oval. But considering the limited options Alfa had I'm sure, safety etc. It's not that bad, I'm beginning to like it.
Some updates we should expect to still see, rear turn signals, those need to be seen from profile too, I believe? Those single round's probably wont cut it , and for the US versions, some running lights like seen on the spy covered up car at 'Ring right?

To resurrect this thread....
One 8C Competizione will be part of the Motor City Alfa 2007 Concours on August 4, and the 2007 Meadow Brook Concours d' Elegance.
So if you want to see one, here's your opportunity.
(and if you are part of MCA 2007, we have tickets for $10 vs. $25 to get into Meadow Brook, as well as a very nice parking area).

Alfa Romeo Returns! 8C Competizione in America in 2008

After being absent from the US market since 1995, Alfa Romeo is finally coming back to America one year from now and they are returning with a bang! The opening salvo from Alfa will be the 8C Competizione, which has been appearing in Europe for several years now. Alfa is only building a grand total of 500 8Cs for the entire world with less than 100 of those coming here, and they will be the last of the series.
As part of the preview for this weekend's Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance, Maserati North America boss Jim Selwa unveiled the 8C for the first time in North America in final production form. Befitting such a low volume car, it will command a commensurately high volume price. In Selwa's words, it will be "somewhere north of $200,000." The carbon fiber bodied Alfa has a 4.7L V-8 with 450 hp passing through a six-speed paddle-shifted transaxle. Needless to say, there is no wrong wheel drive silliness here.
Under the glass rear hatch resides some custom fitted leather luggage, including a special briefcase in it's own slot at the back. The 8C will be offered through a limited number of Maserati dealers with the highest rated outlets getting priority. After the 8Cs are all gone, the Alfa renaissance will continue with more mainstream models coming over in 2009. According to Maserati NA PR manager Jeff Ehoodin, the models that will be available will be announced at a later date. For those with a taste for Italian style, the 8C is a wonderful way to start.
