This is significant - A couple of years ago, they would have looked at me and said, "Alpha WHAT?," eyeing me like I was some old guy always talking about how great my old Morgan was.
My son went to France with school last summer. He came home telling me all about the cool Brera's, 159's, and 156 Sportwagons he saw everywhere.
The 8C intro strategy in the US, accessible to most of us or not, may well be introducing a new generation to Alfa Romeo. If/when they show up, there will be an entirely new group of fanatics signing on.

Well you my friend, have just understood what the 8C is all about!

I agree with "Vivace". As I posted months back, the 8C is extremely important to Alfa Romeo and a method to show new / future Alfisti something about positive image. Never mind the last 27 years. What we have hear is what Giugiaro attempted with the "Iguana", what Bertone attempted with the "Carabo", what Pininfarina attempted with the Alfa 33 Prototipo,..etc..............
Thank You 8c!

It is true the R8 is much better than the 8C competizione. Now you can BBQ with it when you track it

That's one Bull that bit back I guess heh...
According to this story it was the test mule of the RS8, (thats the v10 version with the Gallardo cough audi v10).. Not sure if it's true or not..
http://news.windingroad.com/safety/r...n-nurburgring/
I do find it funny people look down upon the 8C (which is fair, i want a pure Alfa Romeo too but I'm also a realist) for using its' stable mates engine and drivetrain as a basis, Ferrari/Maserati.. But when Audi does it it's considered a "cool" thing.. Actually most reviews I've read have wondered why they didn't just use the Gallardo based v10 to begin with.. What's that tell you about double standard...? But to be honest the one review Ive read from CAR on the 8C Spider embraced it for using the maserati and ferrari proven designs, it seems only "certain people" on this board like to trash it for these impurities...
I guess its cuz Audi bought Lambo, not the other way around? Or maybe cuz its close to another German company?
If we continue an Audi R8 discussion this would probably be the better thread though,
The latest story re: Alfa's return....
especially considering "certain people", I seem to remember, proudly raved how the Audi R8 was completely bespoke (that's tailor made).. well I guess until it becomes the RS8 then huh? Don't worry, he's still on ignore...

The 8C is a beautiful car, but all it can do is bring some attention to Alfa. It can not change the company, as for 95% of people, even Alfisti, it is a financial pipe dream. I think the money would have been better spent developing something like a 2500 pound, rear wheel drive, 200 horsepower small sedan.

Depending on price, the 149GTA or the racer (which I didn't know about) looks interesting. I just hope they can keep the weight down.

Dr. Stu:
Concede that you are "shorting" Fiat S.p.A. (ADR) stock. Come out with it!

Of course it is - that's part of the point. It isn't about whether YOU can buy one. We can't afford a new Ferrari, Bugatti, Maser, or an 8C.
It's because SOMEONE can, and it's out there, it exists, it is possible. Aspiration is about imagining the possible, the best. This represents the current state of the art for THIS company, and as such, it is a strong symbol.

If I told you the truth, I would have to kill you.....but seriously....I have heard so many rumors and seen so many press releases about Alfa Romeo coming back to the US that Alfa and FIAT has become nothing more than a joke to me.
The thread about Alfa vs BMW is so totally absurd that I'm just having fun harassing the people that think Alfa is the Alpha (pun intended) and Omega of the automotive world.
