$200 Grand and Jalopnik already says every car that will be produced are spoken for.

The path I've taken is not through a dealer either, so I'm hopefully on the right path to secure the car. I have a 2 year wait to find out.

Put me down for the Niki Lauda special edition. Also I wonder if this is just WR being idiots or an indication of Fiat & Alfas professionalism. Also since the 8C apparently shares a lot with the Maserati, it seems like this would be easy to do.

Quote:
Alfa Romeo boss Antonio Baravalle and his boss Sergio Marchionne over at Fiat Auto made a trip to NAIAS with seven of their fellow swank executive pals. While on the company jet somewhere over the Atlantic, and while playing a long game of cards, Baravalle once again reportedly pleaded with Marchionne to not leave the 8C Spider a dead deal.

The story is that the original plan for the Alfa 8C was always for 250 coupes (Competizione) and 250 spiders. Back in September before the Paris auto show, once Marchionne realized that the spider run would cost a princely $13 million to get running in production, he killed the spider plan in favor of a 500-car run for the coupe.

But Alfa executives have never given up on the attractive 8C Spider and Baravalle brought it up again in flight between bags of peanuts and infant cans of Coke. The team arrived for their quick tour of the floor here today with the topic unresolved. So, as you read this, the fate of the 8C Spider is being decided at 35,000 feet in a jet-powered tin can on its way to Turin, Italy.

That is sexy attention to detail if so! (assuming different colors for different color bodies)

I'd like to point out an interesting observation - my 16 yr old and his car buddies all know about the 8C. They have seen it, they are talking about it, they are in awe, they are throwing around horsepower numbers. They know how to say "Alfa Romeo."

This is significant - A couple of years ago, they would have looked at me and said, "Alpha WHAT?," eyeing me like I was some old guy always talking about how great my old Morgan was.

My son went to France with school last summer. He came home telling me all about the cool Brera's, 159's, and 156 Sportwagons he saw everywhere.

The 8C intro strategy in the US, accessible to most of us or not, may well be introducing a new generation to Alfa Romeo. If/when they show up, there will be an entirely new group of fanatics signing on.

I just visited the Geneva Salon and saw the 8C pictured above. Probably the most beautiful car I've ever seen in person, although smaller than I expected. The Alfa Babes weren't too bad either.
