Not to confuse threads, but to the good Dr., the upcoming 149 sounds like the car youve been demanding for awhile, and it may borrow styling cues from the 8c... I think Alfa knows what its driver's want, but making the 8C a reality has really put Alfa Romeo in the mindsets of a lot of people, even my friend who doesnt even know Alfas has heard about the 8C...
The only thing that does bother me is all of us probably think of Alfa as our secret treasures, and the 8C will surely be owned by big wigs who dont care much about the brand, but when I see a 612, or murcielago, i think pretty much the same thing, it doesnt stop us from admiring the cars even if theyre just out of reach for some of us...

I agree. The only thing I am questioning is how much the 149 will weight, but a 149GTA looks to be a possability.
Certainly the 159 and Brera are overweight, and I don't see Alfa as able to get a car down to under 3000-3200 pounds or so.....and at that weight, I would want something with closer to 300 horsepower...but still at the $25,000 to $30,000 price tag. I am sure that the technology exists to build a 2000-2500 pound small sedan and meet the safetry regulations; I'm just not sure at what price to the consumer.

My brother went to his Ferrari / Maserati dealer but they hadn't heard anything yet. He placed the order for an 8c and if the Maserati dealership turns out to be the place the order the 8c in the US, my brother is number 1 on the list (in the New York state). As you can imagine I hope he will succeed

And glad we made it through this thread Guys!!!!
I Hope we all see the shinning light of Alfa Happeness That I feel seeing us post about the car again.
Dr Stu, I hear you on a low LBs. 250 Hp Alfa. I also think as stated, its good to have this big splash 8c car to make folks go Wow. And I thank You Dr for your patience in deciphering my posts. I know my writing grates on you. My wife also.....
I have enjoyed your writings for decades. Do you write for any Alfa stuff now days?

I would have your brother call Maserati of North America directly, rather than trying to work through a dealer.

You don't bother me one bit; especially compared to some of the nut cases here
I really haven't done much Alfa writing for about 5 years or so. I am actually more interested in "etceterinis" (small displacement Italian sports-racers, such as Siata, Stanguellini, Nardi, Moretti, etc.) than Alfas. I never really specialized in Alfa, as I am also interested in all the great marques of the 30s through 50s, especially the obscure ones such as Bucciali
IMO, the best Alfa "journal" is Het K, from Holland. A bit difficult read, as it is only in Dutch, but still superb, just for the photos.
As to small lightweight coupes, Mazda is coming out with a MazdaSpeed version of the Mazda 3 coupe, and it will have 260 hp, for around $25,000 all taxes included. I hope the Alfa 149GTA winds up being in a similar price range, and not $60,000, or it isn't going to sell all that well. BMW is a "known quantity" and Alfa is not, at least here in the US.

No, but I sat in one of the prototypes at a show in Paris circa 9/2004. Now, it were only in a price range I could afford...

This promo video shortly shows the 8C in action. Unfortunately, it's only about 30 seconds long.

For a light weight car for 25 000, is it really possible? If it is a 4cyl, you need a turbo to have like 250hp. I don t think Alfa have the 4cyl as Honda have with the s2000. A v6 will be too heavy. Than if you go lighter yuo need aluminum frame and carbon or composite panels but carbon prices go up everyday. So i don t think it will be possible. The only Alfa that look light weight is the Diva but i don t think it ll go under 30 000us
