Best line of the thread. lol

Speaking of.... I was thinking (ok daydreaming) today how nice it would be to have the "Geneva unveiled" 8C spider wheels on the coupe... I wonder if anyone has asked Alfa if they can be specially ordered. Sharp wheels, (look at a closeup and it looks like the rays of the sun, moving..)
Large Picture.

I normally hate "spoked" wheels, but these are special.. They're the right color too.

There are so many people in California with disabled parking placards that I've had trouble finding a place at local malls etc. on busy days or at events. So having adaptive controls is not a requirement and very few of the placarded cars have them in comparison to the total placards issued.
BY looking at the picture, I believe that this is still a dealer car and that said dealer has a permanent disabled badge to put on expensive cars so that they can be parked on a handicapped space and thus avoid door dings. If this is so then it's quite sad. It just screams "I only care about myself" not the kind of dealer you would want to buy a car from.

Are you sure about this? Handicapped plates or handicapped permits are issued to dealers, if there is an actual medical condition that warrants it... In cases of permanent disability, at least in some states, the disabled plates are issued in lieu of dealer plates, and the dealer can move these form car to car. I've never heard of any state that allows a dealer to get a disabled permit, when a medical condition doesn't exist...

Best regards,

Correct a license TAG would not. But a tag that you hand on the rearview mirror (what I meant), like this car has, can be obtained from a friendly doctor for s finite time (I think that's 6 months here in NJ, unless you have a permanent injury). note that he car does not have license plates. What I think is that unless the actually owner of the car has a handicap, someone in the dealership has an handicap that warrants him/her getting a tag but is using it in a way that I would define "scum-baggy" that's all.

In California doctor's cannot issue handicapped placards, red or blue; but they do have to fill out the forms that you take to either the DMV or Triple A to get your placard. Red are temporary placards good for 30-90 days and blue are permanent placards that expire every two years; they renew automatically in odd years. Red temporary placards are also issued to permanent blue placard holders for travel outside of the home state, for example, to use with a rental car at your destination.

Visitors to California can apply for a disabled temporary placard good for up to 90 days with a physician statement.

In my case, I did not want to give up my personalized license plate so I opted for the permanent blue placard. It also allows me to move it from car to car if I drive a different car or ride with some one.

I have never really read anything about the car, I have to admit. I've glanced at the pictures over the last couple of years, read the specs, and read the updates to production and importation. I've been excited to see it happen, just didn't bother to read everything being said about it. So, I apologize if this question is known to all who have followed this car with detail.

Will this car be raced? By factory? By privateer? It would be a shame to see just the production models going to peoples garages, which will happen anyway. A series of track models backed or supported by Alfa would be good.

Again, sorry if everyone knows this. Feel free to point me to articles that outline this.

Thanks

Good question - I'd also like to see this car duke it out with Aston Martins and Ferraris at Le Mans - come to think of it, the car will probably share the same mechanics as the Ferraris! Not much fun in that.

One of the auto magazines with a good web site did a comparison test sometime last summer between the Alfa 8C, the Maserati GrandSport and a Ferrari F430. All three basically share the same engine with each having some minor changes (or major for the Ferrari). It is my understanding that the GrandSport is a full automatic and does not offer the rear transmission option. This is because its platform is shared with the Quatroporte and they have dropped the transaxel option.

The final conclusions was that the GrandSport has a softer suspension and is more of a touring car. The Ferrari is still a street legal track car, and the Alfa fell nicely in the middle. Now that Ferrari has come out with the California, I would think the Alfa has more in common with that car as their specs are very similar. Although it could be the other way around with the 8C being the basis for the California.

Overall, the 8C is something Alfa should be proud of and I say well done.

Cheers,

I just ran across a black one today in Scottsdale. Nice car. Nothing fancy..a little subtle actually. Sounded nice but was not anything to go nuts over IMO.

I did not get to see it up close but was driving next to it. The alfa grill was what gave it away, if It was not there I don't think i would have noticed it at all. Maybe because it was black who knows.

Anyways, it is not a bad looking car in person, red IMO is much better color.

Anyways, there is one in Scottsdale or this one from Cal. lol!!

Alfa 8c test with photo's

Hey Guys,

I got to shoot the 8c for Motor Trend last week. I know we all have mixed opinions about it....but up close and after spending the day with it...I like it, the leather wrapped carbon fiber seats are beautiful, the carbon fiber body is solid throughout, not like a Corvette with those squishy plastic panels, and yes, it sounds great too!!, Heres a link, and I'll upload some photos too. Of course after shooting the 8c I had to climb into my humble 30 year old Spider...which almost starts on the first try, still has a stick to change gears with, but doesn't cost $275,000 thousand dollars. I would like to see Alfa bring an affordable realistic car to our shores, the MiTo GTA is such a let down, how could something so ugly get made?? Doesn't anyone look at what they're approving anymore?? This is why we still keep our GTVs.
