Historic Racing Series at PIR last weekend
I was able to get down to PIR on Friday to check it out.
Wish I could have made it back for Saturday and Sunday, but wasn't able to with other family commitments.
From what I saw of the field, there were over a hundred cars of various classes and vintages, none probably older than early 60's with 5 Alfa's registered to race. Fourty more cars were yet to arrive we were told.
While one of the officials (Mike McCarty?) was giving my dad, brother and myself a short tour on Friday, he made mention that for something like $30 ANYONE with ANY CAR would be able to drive on the track midday on Saturday for about 30 to 45 minutes of track time. Spectator tickets were $10/person with full access to the paddock/pit areas.
Anyway, I'd recommend it and hope to get to it again the next time it's held.
By the way, Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale is a beautiful facility in the southwest part of the "valley" nestled up against the mountains with acres and acres of parking if you ever get a chance to check it out.
