Info on Yank Sprint
Im not sure how this car came to be in the States... About eight years ago it was for sale on a city street corner here in downtown Portland. It originally had California tags on it, circa 1986/7 (as a new car in Calif?) It was exiled from California to Seattle to a car auction in 1996, and ended up here in Portland shortly thereafter. It is now registered here in Oregon with custom tags honoring Sig. Giugiaro: "NOT A VW"
It's a riot to drive, and is in excellent condition, save for these engine/tranny issues. There is an '84 Sprint (true 'Sud) in the Northeast (street legal in Mass), and it's rumored that there are a couple of true 'Suds in Wisconsin (track cars). If I can get the parts in time to complete the engine and tranny work, I will be driving it down to Monterey this August for the Concorso Italiano, which this year is featuring Alfa Romeos.
