Ive had this on both Milano's, and in both cases the door sagged causing the child lock to jam the latch.
Ive always just removed the door skin, and hammered the latch open on the inside causing it to release. Then remove latch mechanism from the car and lubed well with graphite or similar. To prevent the child lock failure I have also shortened the lever.
