33Nick - I would consider this as a very good alternative. In the few years that I was time-trialing I too could never make the schools yet I progressed through the time trial group until my rookie "X" finally came off the car.
The time-trial group is different than the race group. In the time-trial you're not doing door-to-door racing - although practice sessions can be pretty fun! With the time-trial group you can run what you brung versus most - not all - of the race group cars are trailered in.
