When I look on IAP web site and in catalog I see the same numbers 05293/05294 for 91-95 front calipers and same repair kit 06517 for both, too.

I know now Lucas and Girling are the same company but my 91 has Girling on caliper and Myron/s has Lucas on his 95 so companies must have merged after that.

I wonder how much mismatch in braking force 57 vs 54 mm piston size will give?

Now front rotors do have different item numbers 06027 91 and 06034 94-95.
Should be fairly significant force difference even using the large dual booster from the 24V. Approx: 11% greater force placed on the rotors. The 54mm are just slightly weaker but don't get me wrong they are not bad. If I were to keep the 54mm for my old 12V, I would use the later 12V calipers from the 92-93 models. They are much stiffer construction which means they will not flex or vibrate as much like older calipers, Although still 54mm. I had a picture of the 54mm piston next to the 57mm piston it was a big difference.
57mm makes a big difference. This was all discussed in my brake upgrade post so I won't go into it.
Alfa should have used a 42mm rear though with the 1994-1995 instead of keeping the 38mm. Same as on VW's. They all use 42mm, almost identical caliper on the rear. Same size fronts and rotors close to the same, they stop on a dime with a smaller booster and are similar in weights.

I also have both rebuild kits for the 2 calipers. They are not the same.

Saab 9000 did the same thing with abs and non abs cars with ATE calipers, ABS had 57mm and non had 54mm.

I think they joined around 1996 to become Lucas/Girling.
