Hi Judy,
You are talking about the Hot Lap Timers. You set one up in your car and then put the transmitter on the pit wall. It gets picked up by an infared signal. Here is where you can get it:

Get in contact with Chad and tell him I told you about them. He's a cool guy and will answer whatever question you may have. I really like mine because I know if an on or off my regular pace and I can try different things each lap and see if they help of not with my times.
