I remember that report from BMW. I couldn't really confirm it with my car, but it was more fun driving that way, although most people really did frown. Scientific data did not impress them, as they tended to say, "it doesn't feel to me like it should be true, so therefore it can't be".
Granted, I don't do peel outs (not what BMW was advocating, and no sense sending signals to the nearest cop), but to this day, I don't waste a lot of time easing up to the speed limit either.
