AROCSD Tour to Campo--Sunday, May 18

Pacific Southwest Railway Museum, Campo Facility and the Dulzura Café

Dulzura Café is a long standing business in the community and it has had it’s ups and downs. Right now it is a thriving business and serves delicious meals. Tourists, motorcyclists and locals regularly patronize this establishment for food and refreshments.

It is currently owned by Earl and Kitti Pfeifer and they bought it about 1977. It was really run down, but they have put new life in this old restaurant. Earl and Kitti have decorated the restaurant into a rustic country charm decor with lots of antiques on the walls and in the nooks and crannies. The back dining room has license plates for almost every state in the Union and lots of old movie posters. Many old animal horns and deer heads hang on the walls. Most of all there is a friendly atmosphere in the entire restaurant.

Campo Facility 2:00 pm
The Museum's main facility is located in Campo, California, about 45 miles east of downtown San Diego. More than eighty major pieces of railroad equipment are on display, with many of them in various stages of restoration by the volunteers, who are responsible for every phase of its operation.
The Golden State has been in operation since 1986. It’s a pleasant 12 to 16-mile round-trip journey into the history of railroading in the Pacific Southwest. We leave from the historic Campo Depot for the 60 to 90-minute ride. The Golden State operates between Campo and Miller Creek or between Campo and Division. We’re not yet sure which one it will be on the 18th. Golden State locomotive cab rides are also available.
Fares:
Adult $15 Note: Discount fares apply to Seniors (65 and up). The Museum's on-line reservation system may be used to place individual reservations.

Adult Discount $12
Group $12
Child 6-12 $5

Locomotive Cab Ride $35

We’re planning to meet at the Dulzura Village Café (17023 Highway 94, Dulzura, CA, (619) 468-9591) at 11:00 am and enjoy the east county atmosphere. It’s about a 20 mile ride from the Dulzura Café to the Campo facility. The train leaves at 2:30. As of press, there are 125 seats on the Golden State available. There are 2 available locomotive seats. For those who want to be guaranteed a seat, reservations can be made at:
