I'm not sure what the purpose is for this bolt first of all. Does it sound like I just need a new thermostat? Do I use that same bolt on the new housing since they don't appear to come with one? Was it leaking around the bolt most likely because the sealant wasn't applied around the hole? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
That bronze bolt is the bleed screw used to bleed out any air thats trapped in the cooling system. If its leaking means maybe the washer between the bolt and thermostat housing has gone bad, if there is one. Maybe you can try to loosen it a little and see if any air escapes from it (make sure you dont drip any antifreeze on t-belt) and tighten it to specified torque specs. -Pavan
