Here in WA I have come across half a dozen 1.7's at breakers that have 1.5's in them as they are far more common, you really need to look at engine numbers before buying.

Mate, sorry i should have clarified. The car that posed the original question: if it was a 1.7 or 1.5, that has been solved.
With that car, i bought it sight unseen, the reason for this was because i live in brisbane, and the car was in sydney. I drove the car back from sydney no real problems, but once i got the car back, i went to take it out to get a road worthy, and the gearbox **** itself.
The other car i have, is a series 1 33 with a 16v motor in it, which has a 1.5 ltr gearbox in it. I have been trying to get it some mods to make it go faster, i have already done suspension, brakes, and all sorts of vaccum hoses and the like, and all thats really left is the motor. The car is going to be a road registered car, but i want it to be a bloody quick one. As it stands at the moment, My old 33 would blitz most people on my usual sunday drive, and there is a guy who lives up the road from me with a little gray 33 1.7 ie, and we usually have a bit of a play. But i hope with this new car, it should be a little missile.
Thanks again
Tim
