Good question. The plan was always to bring the GTA to the west coast for the Wine Country Classic and Monterey Historics (not accepted yet but hope springs eternal). So I would have had to make an extra trip to the midwest and back in any event. I appreciate the invitation and encouragement I have received to attend the Chicago event, but I had made other conflicting arrangements.

I am not looking to prove my driving skills. There are many drivers better than I. I have no natural talent for racing and have to work at the sport.
It is tempting to put a top young driver in my GTA and see what kind of lap times he can turn at Sears or Laguna in a car prepared to 1966 TA rules.
Ken Dobson has already set the bar very high for a Laguna time in a GTV who knows what he could do in a GTA. Bill Auberlin, a good friend of our family would also turn in an amazing time if he was in my GTA. Dave Vegher unleashed in hot GTA would also be amazing to watch. There are some very talented people in East and Midwest, but the pros and ex pros have a huge advantage. The other issue is date of preparation. I am sure Dr. Martinez's 1970 U2L Trans-Am GTA would be faster than mine given the same driver. The Martinez 1970 GTA has 4 years of Horst Kwech improvements over my GTA.
So a GTA bake off is more just for fun. Modern Professional racing is where you prove yourself. I just want to have fun not hurt the car or anyone else's car and finish well and then drink beer and bench race.
