Smile air filter set up?

Hi all.
I will be back on the road soon with my 33 after geting a fair bit of general maintainence done. My air filter set up seems strange, i have like a square box coming out the bottom of the air filter box just beside the alternator, the cold air intake tube is missing therefore no cold air is getting into my air filter box. The 2 little elbows at each side on top of the air box have no hoses connected to them and one is blocked off with a little plastic cap. I need to get this all sorted out as i want to get my car working to its best after spending all this money on her. I know these questions have probably been asked before but i am desperate for advice on my final stage of getting the cold air to get into the airbox. My mechanic reckons because i am getting hot air into my airbox it is causing my spark plugs to foul up and burn oil. I know all i need is soon tubing to go from the square box to beside the passenger side headlight behind the grill to get cold air into the airbox, where do i get this tube and is it a special kind of material? but what about the 2 elbows on top of the air filter lid, are they supposed to be blocked off or i noticed on most pictures that they have hoses coming from them and they disappear behind the engine, where do they connect 2???????????

Please help me finish the job off properly!!!!
