This has happened to my car twice. Both times the needle got stuck and wouldn't budge after a few dashboard thumps. Took the cluster out and took it to a tach shop and they were able to clean it up, solder a few points and get it working again. Ran for about another 70,000 miles and it quit again...now I just have to pull the dash apart and take it in again. Only difference is the first time the odometer still worked, this time it's not working. Don't know if that means anything...but we did check the cable from the tranny and it's working fine so its not that. Hope this helps to know it's not just you that's having the problem.
