grey gtv6 makes a good point. for the sake of what a new coil will cost you, replace that first before anything else, since it's just about the easiest and quickest thing to replace. you mentioned you were getting a weird issues with your rotor cap. If you have an intermittently breaking down coil, or low current output from the coil, it could cause this. Once done, move on to affore mentioned checks if that doesn't work. The u turn at the front of the fuel pump is a very tight turn anyway, pretty piss poor design, for the sake of having the pump mounted the other way around to eliminate the U turn.
