Just a moment on Jimmy Clark... some 40 years later:
I grew up with the ABSOLUTE certainty that Tazio Nuvolari was the best race-car driver that ever walked the planet! This was a genetic memory inherited from my father... even though he had never scene the Miastro of Mantua perform! (Go figure... I'm half Italian.)
BUT my other half is Scotch... (both genetic and liquid).
I did see Jim Clark at Riverside in a Lotus 40... ("Ten more mistakes than the Lotus 30") in the '66,??? Times Grand Prix. Even in a car that was monumentally outclassed by the competition... (Reminiscent of Nuvolari @ Monaco in '36) Clark was unbelievably terrific!
His smooth style has always been my benchmark. (seldom approached... sadly).
