Carlo Abarth produced the 1100 record car together with Penin Farina, at the same time was produced an other car for ,similar to the 1100, but for a 750 ccm engine. Both cars was presented at Geneva Motor Show 1957.
Carlo Abarth had run a series attempt on the different world records in 1956, the class H with engine from 501 ccm to 750 ccm, with a Bertone produced and Scaglione designed car on a modified chassis from a Abarth 215A.
The Bertone car set a lot of records, but Abarth was not satisfied.
So he took contact with Penin Farina to design the new record car. Penin Farina had good relations to the management at Turin Polytechnic University, where the just had installed a new wind tunnel. Penin Farine used the wind tunnel to test the design and optimise the shape of the record car.
For the 1100 ccm record attempt, a Alfa Romeo Giulietta engine was selected, and the bore stroke was 68x75 1088 ccm (original Giulietta 74x75 1290 ccm) for class G from 751 ccm to 1100 ccm. Output 78 hp at 6800 rpm
On the 18 of May 1957 the car set a lot of new records
