Log In Causes Slowness
Of late the site has performed slower than dialup for me. The symptoms, probably familiar, are as follows: 1) slow screen updating after logging on. The site seems to sit on green for an exceptionally long time. More than a few times I get a "page error" in the lower left had corner. Hit the back button and there is a s-l-o-w wait to get back to the forum menu. 2) trying to bring up a post from the right hand colum almost always fails. I can usually, but not always, access a specific post from fromt the general menu only.
OK, here what I discovered this morning.
1) When I log in at the opening screen and then select forum thnings slow to a crawl and even sometimes halt completely at the green screen.
2) When I go to forums and long in I'm usually, but not always, more successful.
3) When I don't long in, however, and just view everything as a guest the forum software is much, much faster. I can access the forums, read individual posts with ease and, overall, the site works as I would expect one to work in an age of high speed internet.
4) So, for now, I'm not going to log in as a user but, instead, will just read the forum posts as a guest.
5) It appears as though the software, in this new configuration, is doing a lot more processing when people log in as users and this contributes to the slowess of the bb. This is probably the slowest site I visit on the internet. Right now screen updates are even slower than what I experienced with graphic intensive images in the old dial up days.
