If you want to start putting in a V8, why not use a Toyota 1UZFE 4ltr quad cam alloy block engine? Heaps better engine the the Holden boat anchors, cheeper, stronger, lighter. There are bellhousings available to bolt the w58 Supra 5 speeds behind them (tonnes better that the Aussie 4 speed POS).
Chev LS1/Gen3.....

As for the Getrag 6 speeds from the JZA80 Supra RZ, very strong, don't know about handling 1000hp, but the trick is finding 1 followed by paying for it . You'd be looking somewhere between $1500-2000 + plus adapting it to another engine

1 thing I'd love to see is a 13B turbo in a 116 chassis. It'd be a great combination with a late model transaxle and 4.1 diff. The balance would/should be great. Set the engine as far back as you could.
