Jes, just to clarify, I am not saying that a well operating power steering system is harder to steer. The point of that story was that this guy had a poorly operating power steering system that was harder to steer than a manual system. Yet, due to either ignorance or placebo effect, he never knew it.
Right now at my house, I have multiple GTV6, a Milano with no power steering and a Milano with power steering. Above 5 mph, the difference in steering effort between any of the cars in negligible. Below 5mph the power steering is helpful, especially with wider tires, but certainly not critical.
