My ZF failed at 66K and now the remaned one leaks at 104K. Not exactly Toyota quality. Lets face it the ZF rack is a weak point on the Milano. Im sure the guys that converted to manual did'nt do it to increase forearm strength.
My Alfa mechanic says they last 3-4 years, then they all leak.
I admit I have not not studied the electric option in detail, but it is being used by the Hot Rod crowd (small pump hidden) The article I read talked about a kit (column, pump and rack) priced under $1000. Not bolt in for any Alfa to be sure. But it might be worth investigating before dismissing the idea as ludicrous.
If anybody can recommend one remanufactured rack over another then I'm in the market.
