Rick I have known the other Dino Crescentini since 1990 and Giuliano for about the same time. I let Dino race one of my Can-Am cars at the 1992 Monterey Historics and Denny Hulme raced the other car. Giuliano never forgave me for getting Dino hooked on horsepower that weekend. George Follmer won Dino finished second and Hulme finished third in a great race. As you know Dino went on to race Trans-Am and later won a World Challenge GT race in a Corvette.
Here is what Dino Crescentini sent me after I emailed him your comments.
"That’s Rick Clemente. I knew him when I was 10 years old! He’s a great guy.
Rick was Charlie Theriot’s “partner in crime” (Rick writes a little about him in post 140). They were best buddies until the day that Charlie died. Charlie was a really good friend of my dad’s who for some reason took both Charlie and Rick under his wing and helped them with their racing program in the late 60’s/early 70’s with the GTA depicted in Rick’s handle. Believe it or not, it was Rick and especially Charlie that got me into racing – and into my love of Alfa’s. Charlie, who worked off and on for my Dad as mechanic, would drive his full-race-spec GTA to work. As a kid, I spent a lot of time in my Dad’s shop and being that he always worked late, he usually had to find one of his guys to take me home. If Charlie was available to take me home, I would jump at the chance to ride in that GTA. With a wink and a smile Charlie would reassure my Dad that he would get me home safely – and proceed to take me from Burbank to Sherman Oaks on the wildest ride you can imagine on Mulholland Drive. I was hooked!
Man, those were the days." --Dino Crescentini
