Looking at many and close-up detailed pictures really helps one to see how a proper car should/could look and be configured. The dialogue that spins off some threads can be more important to the non-starter than the root thread topic (hijacks). An open thread to discuss "correct" or "stock", or "OE" for Series I based on many detailed photos would let us see some nice cars and, moreso, understand what they might have looked like before PO's and time took their toll. Not to say that mods are necessarily bad, just not perhaps OE if that is an objective. One can also sample and discuss tasteful or other mods. Just knowing what is and is not OE is empowering to owners. Tks, Bruce
Thanks for those nice words, Bruce. A great source of knowledge, at least for me, is seeing so many good and original cars in person. For that you really can't beat the AROC. I grew up with the series 2 and later Spiders, but if it weren't the AROC I would know hardly anything about the series 1 cars.

I'll share an interesting anecdote. Last year, the week before the AROC national convention which was held in August, a friend of mine asked me if I would accompany him on a 5 hour ride each way. The purpose was to take some older Alfa parts that would be offered for sale at the convention. On the way up, this friend of mine asked me if I had ever read the Concours Manual. He had not attended a convention in years and certainly not since the Manual was published and now that he was going, he planned to enter his '68 Spider in the competition. Well, he never got around to reading the Manual, yet his Spider took first in class with a score just a few tenths shy from perfect. He's an original owner, and while he does drive his car, he's always kept up with wear and tear. His breadth of knowledge is amazing, and there isn't an inch of the car that he doesn't know how to refurbish, with the correct part or material. The "preparation" that he did for the convention competition wasn't anything more than what he does to keep his car "nice"!

I think a thread as you describe would be useful and interesting. I would certainly enjoy such information and discussion. I would also suggest that if people go off-topic you simply chime in and ask them to remove their posts explaining that it is to keep the thread useful. I've seen thread starters do this, and people do respond to their request.

Best regards,
