A longshot, but any chance that your car ever lived in the Pittsburgh area? My dad purchased a white Spider from Hoffman in 1956 and sold it in Pittsburgh in 1959 (purchased a new Sprint from Hoffman). Not many '56s out there. I have original photos of my father with the car back in 1956.
