Hi FMD,

The light bulbs typically have the positive at the base (at the very tip of the bulb) and the negative is the cylinder that either screws in or in this case has the bayonet lugs.

If you chrome the entire fitting you'll be joining the positive and negative. Don't do it. I'm pretty sure a good chromer will not do it anyway since they'd have different materials and the chrome won't stick.

You'll have to take out the bayonets. You can still have the surround chromed, but not as a complete assembly.
