Spewing Misconceptions
This is the second time that I have seen you spew a misconception (more like a misunderstanding) of what we are doing there!
WE?? You are part of Ron`s development team JJ? Don`t see any "I dones" in your postings.....
Few on this digest that are looking for better handling have or intend to have a cage & welded reinforcements like you picture. The RSR is not a good idea for street cars. Why does my pointing that out bother you so much?? Why does dropping the spindles upset you? I offer good information, based on experience, and you counter with crap about "Hundreds & Hundreds " sold (which I doubt), like that makes it right. The front coilover is a half-assed way of stiffening up the car, and does not address proper suspension positioning. You should have read my statement about the coilovers & you would have understood they were additions to the torsion bars. The Dropped Spindle Modifications would improve the handling on the cars that have added coilovers to the front. (RSR isn`t the only source, it is not a new idea. I tried it years ago and abandoned it bacause of chassis twisting on a Solo car. Mine were built with Carrera coilovers & 250 lb springs.)
If any one is spewing misconceptions it is you. What`s your problem? Are you selling RSR stuff? Your comments on torsion bar rates is incorrect. A 36mm Euro Touring Car torsion bar results in a wheel rate of 710 lbs. Equal to a coilover rate of 1200 lbs with the angle and wheel/arm rate applied. Measured on my car by the way, with corner weights of 520 front & 580 rear. Stiffer than the 125% wheel/corner ratio many use in setting a road race car up at. You quick to quote what others do, your website is all about the guy in South Africa. What racing & fabricating experiences have you had & done yourself successfully? Posting pictures of stuff done in Africa doesn`t cut it with me or anyone else. Why don`t you post your name on your heading so people can know who they are dealing with instead of initials? Maybe do a Google search to see what you are really all about?
Your statement:Believe me guys - having the LCA parallel to the ground is not that big an issue with the right setup on these cars. is directly out of line with everything published on suspension geometry. You are the one that`s out in left field "nitwit".
UBRALFA`S statement needs repeating so that you have some reference material:
There is a limit to the theoretical spindle position would be. But this is not about theory. 1.5" is the limit. I strongly suggest referring to the books by Fred Puhn, or even Herb Adams or Carroll Smith. I've got more time than money. These (may I say) tomes will send you on a path to handling nirvana. Cheers
