Plastic can be replated by specialists but you'd be better advised to try to find a NOS or repro item (the earlier mazac version is NLA but replates beautifully). Somewhere on the 'net there is a huge website devoted to plating and coatings, so you should be able to get this done. The light/handle unit can be taken apart completely - there is a spring in the handle pivot which has to be carefully unclipped with a metal point (etc) but make a VERY careful note of how this spring should be orientated and be prepared for a difficult re-assembly! I have bought several of these light units for spare parts, as the internal plastic can melt from the heat of the bulb, and the three-position switches can also be temperamental. You might like to do the same thing, check eBay. I would not recommend trying to remove the plastic handle material from the pivot, just clean as best you can and lightly polish the pivot end, it should come up like new. The opaque plastic light cover is available new, and I recommend finding one of these new mini LED clusters in the festoon style because they do not emit any heat.
