I have grown up around these cars....my father was a mechanic and cut his trade working with Alfa Romeo engineering "back in the day in the old country" before coming out here...I have driven nothing but Alfa Romeo from the Giulia Super, to the 74 Alfetta 1.8 litre - to the later model 2 litre Alfetta's, to the Alfa 90, to the Alfa 156 and presently to the Alfa 159....I put up with all the abuse from those who didnt understand these cars.....so Ive earned my stripes.....

Ok, we'll accept your bonifides. But, please understand, this is the A-L-F-A-BB and you did ask for some opinions . . . So, here's a couple more. You may have already decided on the 2L swap and, if so, go for it. However, there are some interesting threads on the forum which discuss the actual hp differences between the 1750 motor and the 2L motor. The 2L's really aren't a lot more powerful than the 1750. I drove a 1750 for years as a daily driver and the only real advantage is the 2L's fatter torque curve. But, torque in an Alfa is an oxymoron, anyway!

Basically, it looks like Alfa cooked the hp numbers a bit. Which brings me to my real point. If you've got the car apart and you are planning a engine swap I'd suggest that you give some thought to slipping in a Twin Spark motor out of a '75. They are avaliable in OZ for not much money, I understand, and w/motronic installed make a very satisfying imporvement on the old Nord motor. You get modern fi. 150hp, and great milage for not a lot of money. (You can even build one of Alfaholics' 198hp screamers in the privacy of your own gragrage in just a few short weekends!) The install has some hurdles to overcome, but it's been done enough times that it's becoming fairly comon. As long as you are changing motors, that's a lot more bang for the buck. I'll bet if you look around, you can even find a ts gtv to drive.

Again, good luck!
