if i had a 12 volt battery fully charged and put my voltmeter on the +&- terminals id get a reading of 12v, if i then connected those terminals with a piece of wire I would get 0v. A short in the light bulb could be like that piece of wire.
thanks, I have tried it with a new bulb. I'm going to check the voltage across the switch to see if maybe I'm losing voltage on that leg under load.
