Mid Engine 'Fetta ? Easy, build a spaceframe chassis as a mule to get all the mechanicals worked out, then find a rustly 116 to convert. You will need a lot of framework added to thge chassis anyway as that rear firewall (behind the rear seats) is a major structural component and the main reason the 116 never got fold down rear seats.
As to the
Alfetta Sports Sedan, this was accomplished well before the 'Ricciardello' car. Tony Edmonson ran one in the early '80s winning (IIRC) 3 championships on the trot. This car was so good he crashed badly during one season but had enough points to win that year, and after 6 months in hospital gettin his burns attended to, came back mid season and won that year too !!!!! I have a magazine article somewhere and I think it says that his Chev engined Alfetta actually retained the Alfetta transaxle
Biggest issue with the car was that the flywheel sat right in line with the drivers body.
Giocattolo: Story as I heard it at the time has it that the Alfa Sprint 6C concept needed trialling, and Australia was chosen as the market. The bodies and major componentry was to be shipped to Oz, assembled, and sold locally thru Alfa dealerships and badged as Alfas. Complications with imports/governments saw the project drag on and Alfa got cold feet.
The project was resurrected using local 5L GM V8 power and the whole rear suspension was completely redesigned. Cars were sold, but the company (The Toy Shop - Paul Halstead) had issues so moved north to Queensland, eventually going broke. The QLD Police tested a couple of cars as highway patrol interceptors !
As far as I'm aware, the sole Alfa Sprint 6C remains in the AR Museum
