Selespeed Failure!!!

Hi

I've searched on here but not managed to find a conclusive answer.

2001 Alfa Romeo 147
2.0 Selespeed

Freaking selespeed system created by Satan himself, i swear it!

Problem starts:
Gearbox selection - NOT in CITY mode.
Driving along in 4th gear at around 90km/h, switched on the airconditioning and about 30 seconds later, came to a rolling stop. The car did not change down to 1st gear, and pulled off (jerkily) in 4th gear. I stopped to the side of the road and switched off.

Switched the car on and then it was in neutral, but wouldn't select any gears - forward or reverse, foot on brake pedal.

Kept the car idling and tried again but nothing.
Switched off and on again. Amazingly car engages into 1st this time. I manage to drive away.

Drove for 2,5kms in urban area, then parked the car. 10 minutes later i start the car to drive away and the cluster says 'SELESPEED SYSTEM FAILURE' and won't take any gears - stuck in neutral.

Switch car off, wait 5 minutes and try again. Car selects 1st gear with no hassles. Drive 400m and park car off for about 4 hours.

REAL BIG PROBLEM
Try to start the car.
Dashboard cluster lights up and everything shows ok.

However, gear indicator is stuck on 1 and "CITY" is NOT illuminated. Engine won't crank over.

Depress brake pedal but this is rock solid and won't travel the usual distance. Only depresses a few cm.

Car seems to be stuck in 1, and can't get neutral or reverse.

Tried disconnecting battery but nothing. Car is still stuck in this position.

From doing internet searches, it seems that this could relate to various issues:
- Actuator
- Faulty selespeed sensor (attached to brake pedal)
- Selespeed fluid
- Other electronics??

Does anybody have any clues and/or comments on how to fix this?

The car is parked in a driveway and there is no way i can move it or do anything with it. Can't get a flatbed tow-truck anywhere close, and the local dealer refuses to send out a technician with a diagnostic.

any help appreciated.

thanks guys.
