I have a 2000 156 selespeed and the air bag fault light has been on for some time, at the last service it was reset-no fault found- but a few weeks later it came on again, is this a common fault? which type of ODB system is fitted to the car and can I reset this fault with a Gunson fault code reader? Thanks
Its a rather common problem on 156 that the contacts under the seats are giving bad contact, the most common solution is to take the contact apart and solder together, after that the airbag warning needs to be reset, but usually stays off after that.
When we had the same problem, we traced the problem to the airbag ECU, and had to replace that. This was done by swapping the ECU from one of our 156s to the other, and the fault moved with it. We had to get a new ECU, which was NOT cheap.
(The ECU is behind the centre console with lots of yellow wiring, if it does get to that stage with yours.)
