What kind of valve damage are you talking about? Visibly evident? The reason I ask is because my No. 1 cylinder rubber mount has cracks and leaks air to the point of whistling at idle. I will replace the rubber mounts during the upcoming head gasket replacement. Hopefully I haven't damaged my valves due to the air leak!
