Should be getting at least 10 psi and 2 quarts out the front fuel filter on just battery power. With alternator power, you should be getting 14-18 psi.

Are the filter new?

Are the electrical connections to the fuel supply pump clean and tight?

Is the fuel low pressure light on? Does it come on initally when you turn the key on, then go off when pressure is built up a few seconds later?

Does the fuel pump have an uneven whine, or is it steady?

When you remove the fuel filler cap, do you hear a hiss, like the fuel vent system is stopped-up?

Bill, you still have a broken compensator spring right? If so, you really shouldn't be driving the car until that's replaced. The rubber band and paperclip fix is only an emergency get-home measure.
